Introduction
Zombies is a large-scale infectious tag game! The goal for Survivors is to survive to the end of the game without being infected. The goal for Zombies is to turn everyone into Zombies! When you become a Zombie you switch teams and join the hunt
App
- Direct players towards the in-app Example Screen for Zombies (tap the Tutorials button on the Search page)
Beginning
- You get a couple of minutes of run away time before we release the Zombies
Survivors
- Game time is counting down at the top
- You’ll start with some health coins, and you can pick up more from health zones
- (Health Mode Only) Your health coins will go down over time. If you run out you will become a zombie
- (Ranged Health Only) Your coins will go down faster the further away you are from the center of the arena
- The radar shows red dots where there are zombies and blue-green dots for survivors. You can show or hide your own team members using the people button in the top right
- The radar will also show zones: health zones, extraction zones and the arena center. You can tap a zone to target it, which shows more information at the bottom of the screen. You can also use the left/right arrows to cycle through all available zones
Zones
- Zones are randomly generated, so you won't necessarily be able to reach every zone. If your zone is somewhere wet, dangerous or private, don't go to that zone
- Zones have a lifespan. They will appear and disappear over the course of the game. When their life bar runs out, they will vanish
- (Powerup Mode Only) There are two types of health zone: normal ones where you can pick up only coins, and shops where you can pick up coins AND buy powerups
- (Extraction Mode Only) Towards the end of the game you might see green extraction zones appear. If you can get to one of these you can exit the game early and guarantee your survival
- If you're a zombie then you won’t be able to see where health or extraction zones are, but you can buy powerups from your shop at the arena center
Powerups
- If you're new to the game, just ignore powerups until you get used to it
- Powerups give you special abilities like expanding how far you can see on your radar, or hiding you from members of the opposite team
- They cost coins to buy and last a limited time. You can switch them on and off by tapping them in the powerup bay
Zombies
- Zombies can infect survivors by tapping them on the shoulder. If that happens you both tap the skull button and scan each other's codes
- (Bluetooth Mode Only) Zombies can also infect survivors using Bluetooth by tapping the infect button at the bottom of the screen, which will make you infectious for about 10 seconds, and takes about 45 seconds to recharge. Bluetooth works up to about 10m but it can vary a lot depending on your surroundings
- If you infect someone, you get half of their coins as a bounty
- At the end of the game you might also see that you've been awarded coins for assisting an infection, which happens if you're near to a survivor who gets infected
- You can only infect people one at a time, so no tapping everyone's shoulders and then scanning all their codes later! Tap, then scan, tap then scan…
Other Features
- You can send coins to your teammates by tapping your coin total
- Tap the list icon to see the live leaderboard
End
- Once the game time is up your score is fixed and you can come back to the meeting place
- The more coins you have, the higher you will rank on the leaderboard. How you achieve that is up to you: visit the most zones, risk staying near the arena center, tactical use of powerups, infecting lots of high-value survivors, or begging for coins from other wealthy players!
- (Extraction Mode Only) If you make it to an extraction zone, you will automatically appear at the top of the leaderboard
General
- Be kind when you catch! The game can get exciting but smile and be supportive
- (If playing with vests/headbands) Turn your vest/headband inside out when you become a Zombie. You can’t infect anyone until you do this
Travel (Large Arenas)
- You are not allowed to use personal transport like scooters or bikes, but you are allowed to use multi-person transport like trains or buses
Safety
This is where you need to communicate your own safety advice, including anything specific to your people or playing area.
Here are some additional suggestions:
- (For shared spaces) Other people are also enjoying this space today. Remember that non-players always have priority over us. Give any non-players lots of space and make sure you don’t disturb anyone who might not want to be disturbed
- (Safeguarding) If you experience any behaviour that you’re not happy about, either from anyone within this group, or anyone else you come into contact with, please come and tell us straight away
- (General) Games can be very exciting, but please remember to take care as you are playing today. Don’t run around blind corners or across roads. You shouldn’t do anything that feels unsafe. Look out for each other and remember, it’s just a game!
